(KRT) - Behold the lowly cotton swab. Don't think about it much, do you?

That would be wrong, say the people who make Q-tips. You need Q-tips more than ever during this time of year, with all the parties and events. According to makeup artist Mally Roncal, here's why:

• Use a Q-tip to smudge your eyeliner for a smoky, evening look.
• Plan ahead in the morning for a long night by applying a coat of mascara, dipping a swab in translucent powder, sweeping the powder over the lashes, and then covering the powder with a second coat of mascara.
• Apply your favorite shade of creamy red lipstick, but enhance it by dabbing gold shimmer powder in the center of your bottom lip - with a Q-tip.
• Out later than expected the night before? Apply a light eye shadow or white powder on the inner corners of the eye with a Q-tip to create a wide-eyed look with minimal effort.
